Mr. Maris Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 4th BRICS Plus Summit (BRICS Plus Summit) at Kazan Expo in Kazan, Russia, as a representative of the Prime Minister. He delivered a statement emphasizing the importance of strengthening the balanced multilateral system that is more beneficial to developing countries. He also reiterated Thailand’s commitment to enhance its interactions with the BRICS and believed that Thailand would be a good link between BRICS and other groups such as ASEAN, APEC, BIMSTEC, and ACD.On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs proposed discussing the reform of the international financial architecture that would give more importance to developing countries, and invited BRICS members to join the high-level discussions on the financial architecture, which Thailand, as the Chair of the ACD, will organize next year.Incidentally, BRICS is a group of large emerging market countries established in 2006. The initial members were Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Currently, there are 9 members, including the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia. In addition, several countries have already applied for membership, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, and Thailand.
